I Did It!

This March I set a goal of riding Maxine bareback at a trot by the end of the summer. Last weekend... I'll just let the video speak for itself.

  2. I've just last month gotten a retired mule from the Grand Canyon...so far I have no saddle ($$'s are an issue) and am thinking about a bareback pad as I do want to ride my Molly Mule...any suggestions??...I didn't want to put a bit in her mouth, I figured she was retired so wanted her to be comfortable...any suggestions??...

  3. Wow! A Grand Canyon mule! I rode a Grand Canyon mule when I was in sixth grade, and I've been hooked on mules ever since!

My bareback pad came from horse.com for about $20. Though, now I'm thinking I'd prefer the suede one with wool underside that costs about $50.

I'm not a trainer, so I can't really give advice on bits. However, I'd bet that if your molly was regularly ridden in a bit and you have soft hands, she'd be perfectly comfortable in a well-fitted bit. I like to have a stop on whatever animal I'm riding, so I'd be too nervous to ride without a bit. But, that's just me.

You might want to contact a local trainer for advice. If you don't know a good trainer in your area, see if there are any local shows that you can visit. I'm sure you'd find someone there who'd be happy to answer your questions. Good luck!
